it was recently stated (article 122) that almost any good quality FAX paper will work in a FAX machine. many FAX machine owners manuals suggest that you buy a specific paper in order to get maximum print quality. the idea is that the paper coating is a chemical soup, and the current profile used for the print heads is probably optimised for a particular coating. using a different paper can apparently gum up the heads, probably because of what the heat does to the coating. anyway, I have actually tested papers other than that called for, and at the very least the print quality usually suffers. none of this is any argument that one should be gouged for the correct paper, but getting the paper the manufacturer suggests is probably worth the effort. -r. kline rvk\@blink.att.com
