I have seen a series of modems appear on the market that have a 4800 bps or 9600 bps send fax capability. It is obvious that somebody has put together a 2400 bps modem chipset and thrown this in. Great -- except they only come with fairly shoddy text-file-to-fax drivers for DOS, so you can't customize much, add graphics or signatures or support printer formats, or in my case, use it from a Unix system. Does anybody have any specs on how these work, or has anybody done any software that could be compiled on a Unix system to drive these modems. I assume they're pretty stupid -- after negotiation of the call you need to just spew out pre-prepared group III fax codes. Since these modems are as little as $100 in discount stores, many of us might be interested. -- Brad Templeton, ClariNet Communications Corp. -- Waterloo, Ontario 519/884-7473
