[Retransmission -- I just noticed that comp.dcom.fax exists, not just comp.dcom.modems.] Hi. Lisa Snyder at Prometheus (503)624-0571 told me about Prometheus modem development a couple weeks ago. Their best is the "Ultima" and it includes V.42, V.42bis, V.32, V.32bis, MNP5, and FAX Group III for ~$800, if I understood her correctly. Of particular importance to me is the fact that they are working on implementing the EIA TR-29.2 Class II Facsimilie Digital Interface, commonly known as "class two". That's a standard set of "AT" commands by which computers can communicate with FAX modems, and it's one of the two FAX modem command sets that is supported by NeXT 2.1 system software -- the other is Abaton InterFax. If anyone knows of other modems that will implement the "class two" FAX command set, especially those that have at least V.32 data capability, please let me know. Oh, and Prometheus has a current product (the Ultima may be a future product within a few months of shipping) called the "9600 Plus" with V.32 data and Group III send+receive FAX capability. It is $679 from JDR (800)538-5000. I hope I'm not mistaken by saying that the "Ultima" also has send and receive FAX capability (because it has so much else). If anyone has experience with either the 9600 Plus or the Ultima, please comment. Gary
