[comp.dcom.fax] cheap FAX machine

bjames@lehi3b15.csee.Lehigh.EDU (Binoy James [890904]) (04/22/91)

Folks,

I'm looking to get a cheap ($400-$600) fax machine for myself. I have no
idea where to start! Which machines are good, what are the different options,
and any other general recommendations or warnings!

So if anybody has walked this path before, or is well versed in matters of the
fax kind, please let me know.

Suggestions, brand names, features/problems etc are welcome.

Thanks,
Bin

A new company, GUIS America, sells a FAX machine in the $400 to $600
range which has an rs-232 interface to the serial port of a PC.
an optional DOS package allows the user to customize the machine
(which can otherwise run as a stand-alone group 3 machine), store,
manipulate (e.g., cut, paste) documents, scan in documents, broadcast.

the scanner and printer in the machine are very high quality.

GUIS: 714-590-0801, FAX: 714-590-1931

I've seen this machine at local Ken Gordon Productions PC shows. Must
have been 2 or 3 shows ago that I first saw it. Have you actually used
it ? My recollection is that it looked a little flimsy and "cheap".

IMHO, the RS232 is its only possible redeeming feature. I've seen the
Canon Faxphone 15 on sale in office product stores in the low $400's,
and that's a much better built machine any day.
