I've just discovered these fax groups, so forgive me if I'm rehashing recently gone-over material. The administration here is looking at a $4k plain-paper fax/copier with some sort of AppleTalk network adaptor to take the load of our current fax machine. I figure I can do a lot better than $4k with some sort of fax modem and the appropriate software. We want to be able to receive faxes and print them on our PostScript laser printers, and to be able to send faxes directly from both our Macs and Suns. We already run CAP, so I figure that if the fax modem is on the LocalTalk net (like a Shiva NetModem or NetSerial), I can probably hack up papof to talk to it instead of a LaserWriter. Given all that, any suggestions for modems and software packages to be looking at? What sorts of features should I be looking for, or trying to avoid? -- Roy Smith, Public Health Research Institute 455 First Avenue, New York, NY 10016 roy@alanine.phri.nyu.edu -OR- {att,cmcl2,rutgers,hombre}!phri!roy "Arcane?
