Since a couple of weeks I'm communicating with a fax in Italy. While on my side I haven't had any particular problem (sent five long faxes and arrived very clearly), the other side has been able to transmit only one out of five (which, anyway, arrived very clearly). The fax in Italy is a top model from Sharp, and it's programmed to call a pool of Panasonic faxes (the central receiving faxes at MIT) at 3:00 (italian time) corresponding to 9:00 EST. For 30 seconds the italian fax attempts to start the connection, but then aborts with the explanation that it wasn't able to recognize the handshake signal from the receiver side. I can only imagine that lines were that bad to make impossibile to recognize the handshake signal, although I'm not conviced because at 3:00 in the morning lines shouldn't be busy at all in Italy. The italian fax has been installed recently and it is at its first intercontinental experience, but it has so far performed flawlessly within the same town. 1) Has somebody else experienced this same type of transmission errors? 2) Do you also think that the fault lies in the noisy lines? 3) Generally, which kind of error message have you got when difficulties arise on overseas connections? Thanks a lot. Francesco Caserta
