My version of 'putfile.exe' which I got with my MS-DOS boot disk for the PCEmulator seems to hang up the DOS emulation on files bigger than ~40Kb. Is anyone else experienced this and is there a bug-free version? -- Andras Kovacs andras@alzabo.UUCP

The answer is simple:
Use the !RSDOS utility obtainable from info-server@newcastle.ac.uk instead!
It works rom the desktop, and implements a adfs-like msdos filing-system...
Also, it will give you the choice of filename-convention to use, optional CR<>LF conversion, and is much faster than putfile/getfile....
I quote from the "Index"-file:
To retrieve a file a file from the archive, send a message to
info-server@newcastle.ac.uk with the following content:
line-limit 1000
request: sources
topic: archimedes filename
request: end
where filename is replaced by the name of the file, as shown below.
A filename of 'index' will send you the latest version of this message.

There are quite a lot of files....
