Does anybody know anything about a new OS-version, maybe called RISC-OS 3
or RISC-OS 2.xx ??

Acorn is writeing newer versions of RISC-OS. I saw a verion where the filer
is multi-tasking and there are you can set the file type from the filer
menu.
I heard that in a new version !Edit, !Paint and !Draw will be included in
ROM which will have 1Meg in size.
I don't know when it will be availible, though.

Yes! I saw it running in module format about six months ago. The modules
I think took up over 2MB of memory, and replace most (all!) the current
ones. I was told at the time that I hadn't seen what I saw. I've not
been told otherwise since, or heard anything more about it. I can only
confirm that the modules for RISC-OS 3 exist!
If RISC-OS 3 *has* been released, then I'd like to know some details,
like how much?

The guy in Watford Electronics told me on Saturday that it wasn't
available yet and when it was it would take 4 M of RAM to run! but
then he also told me I needed two identical brackets to install a hard
disk in my A410 which just goes to show how much he knew! Does anybody
have any reliable news?

I'd be VERY interested to hear Acorn on this subject. (hint, hint)

Yes, but then that would be telling, wouldn't it?

(PS. I'll be on the Acorn LMS stand at BETT on Thursday).

If it existed, which it doesn't, the EPROM version, which doesn't exist,
would work fine on a 1 MB machine.

Owen.

Yeah well I was conversing with Acorn via email about another matter
and I asked them when it was going to be released. I got the standard
reply of them not knowing about Risc-OS 2.5 (3 whatever) but that as
Acorn does follow a policy about upgrading its products they expect
that upgrades on all software produced by 'em are occuring. (Please note
this is not exactly what they said,I am paraphrasing it,and so it is
not to be taken definitively) I am curious as to why they remain so mum
about their new developments when the news has been out for quite a while

If it "does not exist", what are they "not" releasing in the latter part of
this year, and what have I not seen postings about (possible on FidoNet)? I got
the impression that it was not that RISCOS 3 doesn't exist officially, having
been reported in BBC Acorn User, but more likely that it not to be released
for a while yet. Then again, I may be wrong...

Hugs and manacles,
Tracy.
