Recently there's been a lot of talk about a new RISC OS version, I can tell you this: To my knowledge there are two 'beta-test' versions of this new release, know by the version numbers of the desktop module (2.07 & 2.22). Both these versions allow multi-tasking disc-access for all applications which use the standard filer protocol (i.e. downward compatible). The latter version has some major additions over the first, these are: Shared C Library with an included RISC OS Lib, major applications like !Edit, !Paint, !Draw, some fonts, tinydirs etc. included in rom (they all take very little, say 60K) of workspace. I can't tell you when, and if, this new RISC OS will be released, but I must say this: Acorn have done a great job of keeping it compatible with the 2.00 version, all programs known to me work with these newer versions, and indeed have multi-tasking file access, with the exception of communication programs like arcterm and hearsay, although this seems to be caused be the SharedCLibrary, not the OS itself. Acorn indeed has done a great job with this OS, it finally seems to be finished.....
