I wasn't planning to comment on this until a decision is made about comp.binaries.acorn - but as it's prospective moderator I'd better add my views to the discussion.... 1) Spark(Plug) The need to encode Archimedes things differently was forced by the differences in the filing systems - most notably that Archimedes filenames are generally 10 characters long, instead of the 8+3 in the PC World - for those of you who've noticed that Spark's file viewer spaces things slightly wider than a native file viewer - the same reason applies, it needs 12 characters to show a filename if it is viewing a pc archive. I'm reasonably fond of Spark(Plug), version 2 in it's later forms (2.11 upwards) is fairly stable, and a lot of the quirks of version 1 have been banished. If the majority preference is for uuencoded Sparkives I'll put together some small application which can concatenate postings split into articles. 2) Fil's Submit/Extract While this has had a rather quiet time so far (not helped by a couple of dodgy postings as I remember), I think it could be the better way to go. There is also the significant advantage that should any problems develop with submit/extract I can go downstairs and rattle Fil's cage personally! (sorry Fil :-) ). It's your choice.... -------------------- Once we've voted upon c.b.a, and *assuming that it is passed*, I'll invite votes by email on the preferred posting method, maximum size your mail systems can handle etc etc - but please .... no messages about this until then :-).
