[comp.sys.acorn] VKiller progress report

rkl@and.cs.liv.ac.uk (05/08/91)

Here's a quick progress report on VKiller for those interested in such matters.

* V2.20 should now be available on the Newcastle Server. It handles 4 viruses
(including the "Vigay Virus" and the "CeBit Virus") and supports Econet and
NFS now. The user interface has been revamped heavily by Philip Colmer and
I've added even more changes on top of that...

* A minor problem with V2.20 and hard disks with 1000 or more files has been
spotted (the first digit of "Files scanned" gets chopped off !). A simple
fix for this is to widen the icon for this using !FormEd from 4 to 5
  characters.

* V2.30 will be released in early June and will scan for at least two more
viruses. I now have code, thanks to Martin Avison, for FNgettaskhand, so
2.30 will be able to pick up installed Wimp tasks at any time.

* I still desperately need code to provide a list of the addresses of
routines that have claimed a particular vector. Please e-mail me the
code if you have such a routine (it may be OS-version-specific, but I don't
mind that). I would like to get this code and include it in 2.30 if
possible (it will plug the gap in the last remaining weak spot of VKiller -
dealing with the ArchieVirus if it is in RMA).
