[comp.sys.acorn] Taking off the asbestos suit, the moderator replies...

aglover@acorn.co.uk (Alan Glover) (05/20/91)

Firstly, an apology to everyone who's been struggling with GhostScript. Now
down to specific points....

1) In deference to gtoal's system admin (and probably many others
elsewhere), I'll keep within a ceiling of three postings a day maximum in
future.

2) My knowledge of C, at present, is approximately zero. Therefore, I have
to be guided by the person who submits a posting. This is *not* a specific
comment about GhostScript or those involved in it's porting, but making the
general point that I do not know everything and that I have to trust other
people too. It's better to err on the side of being too generous with
information - if a program requires you to '*configure teacups 3' before it
will run properly do remember to tell me so I can mention it :-)

3) As you may have guessed from Fil's comments about !extract, things are
very busy here at the moment. My testing of postings has to be restrained to
a functional test on a 440 - I aim to use a standard set of libraries etc,
but (as happened with the GhostScript test) some specials get loaded at
start up and get forgotten about - at least I'll be wary of that one next
time :-)

4) In my opinion, it would be a very brave person who did warrant that
something would work on every type of machine, on every type of monitor, in
every screen mode, with every possible kind of configuration. All I offer is
that I've seen the posting work.

5) Thanks to everyone who's resent things I lost when my mail file went
boom. I've now got quite a few postings to make, which will be appearing
over the next few weeks - and KEEP THEM COMING!

Alan
