kortink@.cs.utwente.nl (John Kortink) (06/23/91)
I have sent a new application to the Newcastle info server.
!PackDir 1.00 (de)archives directories. I wrote it to do selective backups
of directories on my harddisk, being terminally frustrated by !Spark's
snails pace. !PackDir uses 13-bit LZW compression, resulting in archives
that are the same size as !Spark produces with 13-bit 'Compress'.
The catch is, it is around 3 to 3.5 times as fast as !Spark. The archives
produced are not compatible with !Spark though, and can only be unpacked
by !PackDir.
As I thought it might be useful to others, I have issued it as PD.
Any comments would be appreciated.
