[comp.sys.acorn] List of archive sites

gpvos@cs.vu.nl (Gerben 'P' Vos) (03/05/91)

I've put together a list of the ftp sites and other archives i know of, that
contain programs and other information for the Acorn machines. It's probably
not complete, and maybe incorrect, so mail me any corrections, also if you
like or don't like the concept or format, etc. I'll try to update and post
this list every once in a while, if it proves useful.

					Gerben.

Under ftp sites and pad connections you'll find the directories to look for,
under mail servers you'll find the adress of the maintainer.
Any more information (especially about pdsoft.lancs.ac.uk) is appreciated.
Please send it to Gerben Vos <gpvos@cs.vu.nl>.

gpvos@cs.vu.nl (Gerben 'P' Vos) (04/04/91)

There hasn't been much of a response to my list of archives. I still hope some
people find it useful and therefore i repost a new version with more
information and a somewhat different format. I'll keep trying to update and
post this list every once in a while, unless people object seriously.

We are a very new server, therefore we have not very much programs at this
time. We want to support Public-Domain-TeX (now we have a copy of Graham
Toal's ArMaTuReS from phoibos). We want to support all programs and
informations used for programming (and for comfortable use of the Archimedes
  of course).
The most important program today is the small macro assembler TLA of Frank
Lancaster. We want to support all program languages (also exotic languages
(except Basic)). It's planned to ask per News for subroutines for specific
problems of programming the (e.g. menus in C, graphics in ml...) in the
future. Now we test, if we can use !Submit/!Extract as archiver. Today we
use no archiver at all (except TeX, which uses !Sparkplug).

You can usually call this up over X.25 or a direct dial-up. From some systems
in the UK the command "pad lancs.pdsoft" will work. Otherwise, you should
connect to a pad by calling an appropriate phone number; any university
pad connection (in the UK) should be able to connect you to pdsoft.
To do this, enter the command "call pdsoft". Login and passwords are
given when you are connected. If the worst comes to the worst you can issue
the command "help address" to the pad. Don't try any other addresses other
than pdsoft, you won't get in.

[A..] info-server@newcastle.ac.uk (Albert.Koelmans@newcastle.ac.uk)
Lots of Archimedes programs; this archive has been a close companion to the
Acorn newsgroups for many years and often has the latest versions.

The archive of interest to this group contains public domain software for
ARM based systems (Archimedes, A3000, Rxxx etc), mainly put together from
  Usenet postings and private submissions.

To get the current contents of the archive, send a message to
  info-server@newcastle.ac.uk with the following content:

  request: sources
  topic: archimedes index
  request: end

The index file also contains a lot of other useful information, such as
locations of other archives, and a trouble shooting guide.

Within each bbc directory is a file called "00contents", which gives a list
of all the other filenames in the directory. Only for users within the UK.

Because the kermit directory list is very large, i give the file prefixes
here: BBC B/B+/Master: BBC*, BBC+Torch 2nd Proc: CP* (LASM) or CP4*
(M80,LASM), Archimedes: AR*, Cambridge Workstation: AC*.
