We have a couple of the old Novell 286b servers, I guess they were actually Samsung machines. One has had some problems that I hope we have fixed. Anyway, the problem is the CMOS got blown away on a production server which is not a big deal, as the machine still boots and runs fine. the problem is that on cold boot, it always ask for the boot device. We would like this machine to be able to recover from an outage without having someone have to tell it to boot from the HD. I guess the problem is we don't have any setup diskettes for the machine. Anyone know what the CMOS format is? I'llpoke it in myself if I can find what goes where, or use an IBM CMOS editior program I wrote a long time ago. Even better would be someone who might have a simple setup for it. I suppose it is standard at port 70h, so I could just write a little routine to go to one of the machines that is OK and read it's CMOS to a disk file, then write that into the target machine. But I'm afraid about other things, like the RAM size, and such. It works right now, even though it is a pain. The other issue is the power supply. It was on a marginal circuit that trashed out the supply, which has since been rewired. Does anyone know where I can contact Power Systems Inc, the makers of the supply, and find out what the ratings are for the FWB on the power input? That seems to be the only thing that smoked.
