[comp.sys.novell] NOVELL@SUVM?

randy@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (Randall E. Cotton) (11/29/90)

This is a new group, correct?
Does anyone know if the NOVELL listserv group on the Syracuse
University VM Internet/Bitnet machine will be gated into this group? It
would only make sense - it is a very large, active and established
list. Posts to comp.sys.novell should be forwarded to this list and all
posts to NOVELL@SUVM should be forwarded to comp.sys.novell.

Have a look at the group bit.listserv.novell, this is an internet
copy of the novell@suvm list. I believe it is a one way gate however,
so you should post messages to NOVELL@SUVM.BITNET .

Yes, but there are some people (such as most of Australia, I believe) who do
not have access to bit.* newsgroups for some reason. As such, forwarding news
to this newsgroup would make a lot of sense- at the moment I can log in and
find 150 mail articles waiting to be read!

I believe that gatewaying bitnet listserver lists is a locally decided
and implemented feature. At least that is how it is done here.
Though I've never looked at exactly how this is done, I can't see
where it could be very hard to do.

I guess an ideal solution would be to have one system gateway traffic
back and forth between netnews and the listserver. However, does
everyone on the listserver WANT to see all the traffic from the
newsgroup? Maybe. I guess it depends on how you are getting the
Novell list (mail or gatewayed newsgroup).
