luesak@uop.edu (Luesak Chowpradith) (12/04/90)

Hi Everyone,

I would like to know whether anybody has a problem with
remote printer in Novell 3.1? I seem to have a lot of
trouble with it(eg. log up and losing the job) Any
	help on this? Thank.

I am just about to bring a file server on line using Novell 3.1. I will be
using pserver and rprinter for the first time. I was talking about this with
my tech support person yesterday, and he told me that there are major conflicts
between rprinter and Windows 3.0. This is only a conflict if you are running
Windows 3.0 on the machine that you are running rprinter on. I plan on having
my user workstations running Windows 3.0, but the printers will be attached to
the network through either dedicated workstations or NetPort boxes that will
not be running Windows. Evidently, that works fine.

This is the only thing I have heard about rprinter. Anyone else?

Under Novell 2.15, there is some sort of problem related with pconsole when
used on a server with rprinter printing in use via the pserver VAP. I
don't know whether it occurs also under 3.1, but if it does someone might like
to tell us. For some reason, if you are adding or deleting print queues from
a server, and possibly some other operations also, the entire server can crash.
It's too hard to test this given users need access to a server without this
happening so I can't pinpoint it. If anyone has experienced this and knows
why it's happening, I'd love to know!

Cheers,
+Mark.
