[comp.sys.novell] IPX/IP Encapsulation Clarification

joeld@uncecs.edu (Joel Dunn) (12/11/90)

Folks, I'm sorry but I was looking at the question from the wrong side. That's
what happens when you are working with lots of terminals and lots of windows.
Sometimes, one task doesn't get enough attention. :-)

What we are doing at UNC-CH is wrapping the IP packets in IPX, putting them on
a wide area net where they go to a box that strips off the IPX and puts the
remaining IP packets on an Ethernet. In other words, we use Novell LANS and
IPX to allow easy and inexpensive access to the internet, not using the
internet to connect Novell LANS.

This is a nice trick, but is not what the original poster was seeking. Sorry
to mislead you.
