I have Novell 2.15 on an ancient AT clone server rather remote from a classroom of XT workstations and a Hewlett Packard Rugged Writer printer. Due to distance, I set the printer up for serial, with hardware handshake, from the server. Problems encountered include failure of 2.15 to recognise most serial cards (specifically the DIO 500 that are our standard model), and very poor handshaking. Long printouts, or printouts withs lots of linefeeds always lose characters. The printer was keeping up fine with hardware handshake when I shared it via a dumb 8 input serial sharer. Server memory is only 1 megabyte, and can't be expanded until I get my hands on a different motherboard. Does anyone who actually knows what they are doing with Novell (I certainly don't) have any suggestions? (And, no, I probably can't move the server to the printer and use Centronics, and I'm NOT going to move the printer into my room!)
