Agreed, the Novell NBACKUP did not preserve the perms. Sytos PLUS, though flawed, will preserve MOST of the permissions ( ALL that normal humans care about). Version 1.10 DIDN'T, I have verified that 1.20 does (though flawed. I should post on this ...). Sytos relayed that the problem these utilities are having is due to how late Novell released their Permissions Data Structure specification. -- Greg Presedo-Floyd "Representing myself" Momenta Corporation 415-969-3876 Mountian View, CA 94043

Some tape backup software, MAYNARD and PALINDROME TNA offer utilities that will allow you to copy directories from tape to "other" drivers. Other than where they came from that is. They also retain trustee lists, etc. (at least this is what they claim) Ken -- ****************************************************************************** Network Support Services: Ken Haynes, Certified Netware Engineer

It does NOT rebuild the subtree there! We ran into this while trying to find a way to move several department's home directories from SYS: to department owned volumes. We ended up using a utility called NINFO we downloaded off Netwire. It saves all the trustee rights for a volume into a file. If you edit the file and change the server and volume name in the header, then you can restore those rights to a different server. I don't know if it can be made to work if you're just moving things to a different directory on the same volume.
