I am buying some computer equipment for some friends and would like some advice, in particular about the choice of networking packages for a very small environment (about 5 PC's). Is Novell worthwhile for this size system, as opposed to a much cheaper package such as Lantastic? Any comments/advice would be appreciated. -Harjinder --

I would suggest that for this small a network they consider Lantastic with the ethernet cards. Quite honestly, I've never seen a network that small that needed all the power of a true Novell network, although there are plenty of people who will be happy to sell you one. If you get the Lantastic ethernet cards, and later the system grows, you'll be able to upgrade directly to Novell, because the ethernet cards are NE2000 compatible cards. Plus, you won't have to dedicate a PC to the workstation (which, realistically you should, because using ELS and having someone actually use the file server as a workstation, running DOS apps at the same time, is something you really don't want to do.....)
