I am a technical assistant at the Raspet Flight Research Laboratory at Mississippi State University. I am trying to set up a system out there to enhance our computing capabilities. We have 6 PC's running under Dos, and one unix box running under 386/ix. We will (hopefully) soon have an internet link and a 486/33 running as a "domain server." I would like to network all of them together so that they all have access to the internet. I would like to network the PC's together under novell, but I have some questions about it. Can I just hook the PC's together under novell with ethernet cards, then hook those to the unix boxes? I would like to be able to use NCSA Telnet to telnet to the unix boxes from the PC's. I would also like to have limited file sharing between the PC's. By limited, I mean that certain files on certain pc's shouldn't be accessable to the network. Do I need a novell server to accomplish this? Any answers to these questions and any other insight you may want to give me about novell will be greatly appreciated. I am new to novell, and I would like to get as much knowledge about it without reading manuals before commiting myself to this project. I would like to know what I am getting into first!
