I've heard from various sources that one must be careful about setting up a Novell file server on an IDE drive, and in particular, certain IDE drives should be avoided entirely. We are presently in need of setting up a Novell system using SFT Netware 2.15c on a 386-25 clone, and because of financial constraints, would like to use one of: 1) Seagate 1102-A IDE drive 2) Conner CP-3184 IDE drive 3) Quantum QT80-AT IDE drive Can anyone comment which of these drives is most preferable, or whether we should even be considering an IDE drive at all. Much appreciated...... Mark and Brian

I have been on the Ontrack board the last couple of months and a lot of messages centers on Novell and Conner hard drives. Most people do not have a problem with this combination. Ontrack does sell a software program called Disk ManagerN that speeds up thNovell installation process by doing a faster equivalent of COMPSURF. No news on the Quantum drive or the Seagate. I don't know if you know this, but Hard drive international is selling the Conner 100 meg hard drive for only $30 more that the 80 meg version. Most vendors seem to have the same strategy. Unless your CMOS doesn't have user definable drive type and you don't have a entry that matches the Conner 100 meg, you should get the 100 meg drive. The Conner specs for the 100 meg is 8 heads, 776 cylinders, and 33 sectors per track. By the way, I don't work for Conner or Hard drive international.
