[comp.sys.novell] Info Wanted:

bobg@xroads.UUCP (Bob George) (02/28/91)

Hi all,

I've got an interesting challenge at work, and am hoping to take
advantage of the collective experience of 'the Net'. We're trying to
configure a (trans)portable networked training lab consisting of 10
workstations (max) and a file server. Basic workstation
requirements are:

- 80386DX/SX (thinking MS Windows 3)
- 4Mb RAM (ditto)
- 60Mb Hard Disk	(for stand-alone training as well)
- VGA resolution screen	(must have)
- 'Normal' Keyboard	(close to desktop)
- need not be battery powered
- quality and durability outweigh cost considerations (in theory :)

The network OS will be Novell, possibly both 2.15 and 3.1. The server
need not be the exact same machine as the workstations, though I like
the idea of using a WS as a fall-back server when the inevitable
disasters hit. Since nothing valuable is stored, anything in terms of
backup etc. is not a major requirement (although NetWare SFT is needed
for training).

Network-wise, lack of additional boxes etc. is highly desirable. I'm
thinking thin Ethernet just in terms of simplicity, but am open to
suggestions.

I'd be most interested in hearing if anybody out there has tried
something along these lines and had any experiences or recommendations
to share. If you could e-mail me, I'll sumarize in a followup.

Thanks!
