I need some advice. A Netware 386 v3.1x system is being configured, and the SysAdmin wants to buy for the future. I've suggested EtherNet UTP 10Base-T capable NICs as the base topology rather than TokenRing (16mbit). However, I have practically no experience with the cards that are available. So I can help him decide what NICs to get, can anyone with experience with UTP ethernet cards send me your opinions, facts, and gripes. I am interested in NICs that support Netware, specifically 386 v3.1x, ease of setup (for installation), and reliability. The SysAdmin knows that buying for the future will cost him now, but he hopes that will save him $$$ downline. Cost may affect the final decision if all NICs are close in capabilities & features, but Strength of company & support policy are more important (IE: Lifetime warrantee, 5 year warrantee, etc). From what I have read in /Lan Times/ the 3Com and Western Digital cards look fairly impressive, and I'm aware that Tiara also has a card available. The SysAdmin is familiar with Tiara through their ArcNet Lan*PC cards (very configurable, reliable, and lifetime warrantee). Mail responses, and if there's interest, I'll summarize. --- J.
