Sometimes even with expensive software you experience surprising things: there really seems to be no utility for sending mail or even TELL something between the users in a novell sft 2.15 envi- ronment. I have thought this would be packed as a basic utility but maybe I haven't found it by now....... Seriously: what can you recommend for a simple to use mailing, conferencing, chatting, telling feature for novell? - Thomas Muhr

Our site uses cc:Mail for this purpose. It has its flaws but is pretty well-liked by most users. cc:Mail is sold by a company of the same name, located in the Bay Area as I recall. I'd like to hear from anyone who has successfully integrated cc:Mail with Unix SMTP. cc:Mail sells an add-on product to accomplish this, and Proteon distributes a public-domain version. How difficult is it to set these things up? I've got NFS running here, providing access to files located on our Novell servers; soon, many sites will be running Novell's NFS server product. Is there a means of sending and receiving cc:Mail messages using software running on a Unix system (as opposed to one or more dedicated PCs, which take up $$$ and physical space), accessing a disk directory recognized by cc:Mail? -rich

Current versions of NetWare ship with coupons for MHS, the Message Handling System. MHS-compatible mail software is available inexpensively and free. It's good for contacting users within the lan, as well as performing store & forward message services beyond it. Besides MHS users, an MHS-UUCP gateway is in the works.
