[comp.sys.novell] Question: File OWNERship corrupted

Francisco A. Camargo (Kiko) <camargo@cs.columbia.edu> (04/17/91)

Hi There,

Has anybody experienced this problem before: An Advanced Netware 2.15 (plain)
is showing users having ownership of files that they have never accessed. The
problem seems to be related to the "deletion" and "creation" of new login
names, and groups, but that's all that we can say so far.

However, this is a very serious problem as we have thought that people
were accessing files that they shouldn't (for which they didn't even have
rights to), and some people may even have their job in the line for this.

I have not being able to reproduce the problem, and all the BINDERY seems
to be otherwise OK. I'd like to know if this is a real BUG in Netware, or
there is something that we could have done wrong, thus causing it. Also, is
there any quick way to fix the ownership of a bunch of files ? I only know
of FILER, but I'd hate the idea of going through every single file.

Please, reply to this account.

/Kiko
