I've got a question for you. I work in a computer lab that recently switched our networking software from IBM PCNet, to Novell 386. There is one problem which we have yet to figure out though. To support the University's Russian language department, we have a program which creates cyrillic characters for the screen and a binary font which we have been copying down to our HP II laserprinter so it will print cyrillic characters. We can't seem to successfully copy the font down to the printer, presumably because Novell isn't recognizing the binary switch in the copy command and is downloading the font as a text file. I presume this because when I load PConsole the file is listed as a text file. Here is the command we're using to download the font. copy /b leedlj2a.fnt lpt1 The only other change we've made is to switch from Zenith Dos 3.3 to IBM Dos 4.0. Any ideas, we're stumped. Thanks Mike

Get to the queue information screen ("Print Queue Information", the print queue, then "Current Job Entries"). Press the insert key to show you want to insert a job in the queue. It will ask for the directory of the file, then the file's name, then the print job configuration (use the default here). Next is a job description screen. Use the down arrows to go to "file contents." Press return and select "Byte stream." Then you can escape out of it all (answer yes to "Save changes?" This should download the file to the printer. -- |\ \\\\__ Tony Maimer __ | \_/ o \ / | > _ (( <_ / | | / \__+___/ maimer@kuhub.cc.ukans.edu /o /_/| |/ |/ < )) _ < \ \ \| \ | +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Any ideas, we're stumped. This is a simple problem. Go into the utility PRINTCON, and set the file contents to "BYTE STREAM" ... not "text". Obviously, this makes Novell think that files are binary. I just looked at the manual (Command Line Utilities), and there does not seem to be a switch on the Capture command to do this. However, I think that I would try the NoTabs option, and see if that did the trick. If it doesn't, then the option via PRINTCON works for sure, as that is what we use.
