is it possible to print from unix (386/sysV) to a novell server. What do i need? None of the files or utilities need to be accessable from the novell server from the unix box. Basically all i want to do is to be able to print to the lazer printer on the file server from the unix box. --- -- Leon Bryant, BHP Rod & Bar Products Division, Newcastle, Australia INTERNET: lmb@cerberus.bhpese.oz.au | Work: (049)402205 UUCP: ...!uunet!cerberus.bhpese.oz!lmb | Home: (049)873272

The Charon mail gateway from Pmail supports LPR. Ask your mail provider if they support lpr in their SMTP mail gateway. LPR/LPD is UNIXspeak for a protocol that permits a UNIX machine to print on a remote machine's printer.

Then go to a PC running PC-NFS and copy the print file to a local drive. Then reboot the PC and load IPX and NET3 to login to the Novell network. Insert the print file into the Novell queue. -------------------------------------------- I realize that the Clarkson packet drivers would allow me to not have to reboot, but haven't had the need and/or time to have someone *pay* me to install the drivers with NetWare drivers. BTW, have you heard of NetWare for NFS? It's expensive, but if you have a need to allow Unix stations to share Novell resources (both file and print services) then it is the way to go! My NetWare for NFS supposedly shipped TODAY, so I should have it by end of this week... Aloha, Jonathan jons@cup.portal.com
