[comp.sys.novell] News on Novell

jnv@cl.cam.ac.uk (Neil Viljoen) (05/02/91)

-------
Sorry if this is a FAQ. I want to get News from my Unix environment to a
remote Novell network. This would mean that I would have to have a
remote login via modem to that site, transfer the News there into a file
of some format. The users on the Novell side would then need some way of
reading this news (posting is not important). Does anybody now of such a
package public domain, shareware or commercial?

Cheers and Thanks

You could use the public-domain SOSS package, running on a dedicated DOS
system, to make the file transfers run fairly easily. You'd set up a
Novell filesystem as the target directory for Unix netnews, and run some sort
of reader program on those files (I think there is such software available
under DOS). For netnews, SOSS' performance will probably be quite
adequate, and you don't need advanced file protection features.

Alternatively, you can get NFS from Novell and add it to your server.
You'd then do things exactly the same way.
