Our Netware 386 v3.11 server crashes consistently when I copy files from a Macintosh to the server over an EtherTalk 2.0 interface. The server is a Dell 433E (33mHz 486) with 16MB of memory. It contains an Ethernet card (Cabletron 2010X) and a Wangtek tape controller, as well as two floppy drives and a hard disk. The Ethernet card is set to IRQ=5, I/O base addr=220, base mem addr=none. I also tried IRQ=3 and I tried removing the tape controller but that didn't help. The Mac has a Cabletron Ethernet board. After logging in to the server from the Mac I drag one or more files to the Netware disk. Sometimes it crashes on the first file and sometimes it crashes after a couple of files have been copied. It sometimes reboots immediately and sometimes it just dies and the screen fills with vertical bars and blinking graphics characters. The FAT blocks are always damaged so I have to fix the server's Macintosh volume with VREPAIR. Sometimes the SYS volume is corrupted also. After the disk volumes have been repaired I also get server crashes without touching the Mac (using disk to disk transfers from a DOS workstation) which makes me think they aren't really repaired. I also occasionally get an infinite loop of file write pre-read errors on the server, but these go away when I power down the server and start it up again. I was also getting these before the Mac was connected to the server. The Dell hard disk diagnostics come up clean. If you have a clue that might help me resolve this problem, or if you've had a similar problem please let me know.
