Hello Again,
Currently out of our seven national field offices we only have
ONE that has a stable multi-user environment. It has four workstations
operating under Novell's Advanced Netware 286 V2.15. I'm the Supervisor of that
LAN and have the job of being the national coordinator of the productivity
levels for the nation as a whole. Enough said.
Problem:
The other six offices can't survive with thier current enviornments
much longer. Proposals have been made to run a couple of T1 backbones
up the east coast and out west, and have the local field offices
emulate as terminals off our(actually General Signal's) IBM 3090 or one
of the nodes of our VAXcluster. Problem is it looks as though its been
excepted but will be awhile before its implemented.
I've written database applications for the one LAN we do have and I'd
like to set up the other offices with a simple LAN environment, but
don't think I'll ever get approval for the money for Advanced Netware
and a dedicated server for each office. Will a product like ELS Level
II save me that much money and be able to support the application I've
written for the current LAN? Are there any other solutions I
should be considering?
I don't mean to use this group to do my job for me, but any suggestions for
solutions will be greatly appreciated. I'm on my own for this one.
Thanks in advance, Bob Scipioni
