Hi An associate of mine and I are now in the process of architecting a Novell 3.x network for ethernet. We have been doing this for many years in the Acrnet envirnoment (back to Netware 86) and have done several small (under 10 stations) Ethernets. The thing I am asking, however is peoples experiences with different manufacturers of Ethernet hardware - we had always used NE2000s. This net will start off with only 10 initial ws, but MUST be expandable to 100-150 workstations (and another server or 2). This is the 'test floor' of a 3 story building. The major points that I worry about are reliablity and compatability (just like everyone else :) The media will be 10BaseT (using unused PBX Merlin cable in the walls). We are looking at concentrators from NetWorth and NICs from SMC, DLink, and Western Digital. Does anybody have experience with these products and their performance in the 'long run.' Are their any other quality products in this price range that I should be considering (Synoptics and Cabletron seem to expensive in initial cost and expansion.)? I would hate to have to replace bogus hardware when the same resources could be used in expanding the network. Any feedback would be appreciated, and I will summarize to the net if others are interested Kris Nybakken nybakken@rodan.acs.syr.edu -
