There are several LAN card manufacturers that make LAN cards that are hardware compatible with the Novell NE1000 and NE2000 cards. For example, 3Com, recently announced its NW1000 card which is a NE 1000 clone. Other clone cards are made by Artisoft, D-Link, National Semiconductor, CNet Technology Inc, Networth Inc, Telebyte Technology Inc, and probably many other companies. My question is does any one have any information on the degree of compatibility of these cards to the cards produced by either Novell or Anthem Technology Systems ? Anthem is the vendor that got the business from Novell when they stopped doing hardware. Will all drivers written for the Novell NE 1000 or 2000 work on any or all of these clone cards ? I've used a DFI (diamond Flower Ind.) NE2000 and NE1000 cloen cards. I never had a problem with them except that you need to use the novell ne2000 drivers in bridges. I used them with both the novell drivers and their own - both were fine. I opted for the novell drivers because It was one less driver to keep track of. In sets of 20 they ran about $150 bucks. I've also recently looked ata ne2000 clone from ACCTON. It was well made, two big VLSI clips and supporting glue. They cam with PCNFS, Packet, 3com, PCSA 3.0 and novell drivers. They ran with the novell ne2000 drivers fine. They have a life time warantee and run about 250 single unit cost. jamesp@world.std.com
