1). Is it possible to have PC's and Mac's share printers using
Netware 3.11 and the Mac NLM?
2). Must the printers all be postscript?
3). If we install the NFS NLM could the UNIX machines share both
the Mac and PC printers?
4). If we place a Dayna DL2000 card in our file server with just
appletalk printers on it what kind of machines would be able
to print to these printers (assume we have the necessary
NLM's) Mac's, PC's or UNIX (or some combination of these).
thanks,

However, the Macs can only print to postscript printers. I have a HP LaserJet III running as an ASCII printer that only the PCs can print to. I have a QMS printer that is attached both via LocalTalk and via a PC that the Macs print to as a LaserWriter and the PCs print to as either a HP LaserJet Series II or as a PostScript printer. The printer is smart enough to figure out what is what. I also have numerous Apple LaserWriters that I have created print queues for. The Macs see both the LaserWriter and the print queue when the Chooser comes up. The Macs can print either to the printer or the queue. The PCs can print to the queue. > >2). Basically what it says is that the UNIX machines can lpr to any known NetWare print queue. Our plan is to migrate all of the Unix printers to NetPorts and run them all off of the Novell Print Server. Since they are all PostScript printers, the Macs and the PCs can print to them. The Unix boxes should be able to print to any printer on the net. At least, that's our goal. > >4). Okay. I have a DL2000 card in my file server. To the best of my knowledge, all of the machines (DOS, Mac, Unix) would be able to print to these printers. The DOS and Unix machines would be able to access through the print queues, and the Macs would either choose the printer or the queue. I hope this helps. I'm in the process of getting network-wide, seamless printing up and running. Since I don't have everything installed yet, whether it works remains to be seen. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Karin Coffee Intel Supercomputer Systems Division Network/System Administration 15201 NW Greenbrier Parkway The LAN Lords Beaverton, OR 97201 karinc@ssd.intel.com (503) 629-7693 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
