[comp.sys.novell] IPX for packet drivers AND Windows

freeman@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (Jay Freeman) (06/01/91)

I am looking for an IPX for the Clarkson packet drivers that Windows 3.0 will
recognize as being "valid". I am using the wd8003 driver and the BYU packet
driver IPX, but if I tell Windows I'm running Novell, it says my IPX is bad
or invalid when I run windows. I use WinQVTNET for tcp/ip on the ethernet with
no problems. Can someone put a stop to my premature hair-loss?
                               Thanks, Jay

If you want to run Windows 3.0, your IPX, NET3, etc. must be at least
netware version 3.01d I believe. (Sorry, I don't know what "Clarkson"
packet drivers are, but assume you system may be similar to ours.)

Last October or such, the shell stuff you need was available via FTP
from Rodan. (I seem to have misplaced the address, but perhaps someone
else can tell you that.) The directory may have been "novell". The
files you need are DSWIN1.EXE, DSWIN2.EXE, DSWIN3.EXE, DSWIN4.EXE, and
DSWIND.EXE. These are binary, not ascii, and each contained many
compressed files which were recreated when I ran the DSWIN files.

When I got the stuff, IPX.OBJ, NETBIOS.EXE came from DSWIN1.EXE, and
most of the stuff from DSWIN2.EXE was also used for Shellgen. The proper
NETn.EXE and XMSNETn.EXE were in DSWIND.EXE (do not use May '90 ones.)

DSWIN3 and 4 contained version 3.01 of some of the Netware utilities.
Supposedly, running a 3.01 shell required 3.01 versions of
such things as BINDFIX, and would not run 2.15 versions well.
However I found 3.01 utilities did not always mix well with my NW2.15
system, so I do not use them. Instead, I use a 2.15 shell when logging
on as SUPERVISOR.

Hope this is helpful. If you can't find the FTP address for RODAN,
let me know. Someone else here may have it.
