[comp.sys.novell] NETX and Network Tools

widdicom@ADS.COM (Greg Widdicombe) (06/20/91)

Well, fresh back from NetUCon it seems that there is some good stuff
on the way from Novell - scheduled release date July 13, 1991.

NETX - generic shell for netware. Goodbye NET3/4/5 - NETX works with
everything.

Network Tools - (I think that's what it's called) A set of Windows
based network administration tools. Allows you to perform Filer
functions, change passwords, map drives, attach to queues - all from
the comfort of you Windows m/c.

NETROOM 2.0 - I guess this was "released" yesterday (6/19/91) or will
be today. Goodbye QEMM, goodbye 386MAX, this puppy blows them out of
the water. BTW, this product is from Helix, not Novell. Features:
Windows 3.0 support, Special DOS 5.0 support, Converts XMS to EMS,
Relocates to High-DOS, Relocates to Lim 3.2 Frame, Relocates to EMS,
Relocates to XMS, Works on 386/486, Works on 8088/286, has memory
analysis utility. I would think using DOS 5.0 and NETROOM 2.0 that it
would be possible to have about 635 K free after loading DOS, IPX and
NET5(X).

XTREE - I hate to spread vicious rumors, but when I asked XTREE about
"when they were going to release a windows based version of their
product", their response was "We don't discuss future product
releases". Makes you wonder.

Perhaps some other NetUCon attendees will post some of the goodies
they learned in the tutorials/sessions.
