[comp.sys.novell] 3.11 application problems

To the NW386 3.11 experts!
I have an interesting problem. By the time you read this I will
have undoubtably returned the server to Version 3.0 (the only alternative
I have) because the system needs to be used.
Due to the specifications of access to students, an number of
accounts have been created -each account starting up a menu that gives
access to software. For instance, logging in to WP51 presents a menu
that offers the option of 1. Running Word Perfect 5.1, 2. Formatting
a floppy disk, 3. Logout. So far -nothing particularly exciting.
This worked very well under 3.0 and with batch files and macros, users
were able to shell out of wp and redirect print queues etc. Very
straightforward and vanilla.
[BTW Dos 4.01, QEMM386 v5.1, ne2000 look alikes, IPX and NET4 in hi mem]

I upgraded to 3.11 4 days ago, and have been aging rapidly ever since.
A number of my applications no longer run! Analysis programs have shown
that now the login scripts (at least I think they are the login scripts)
are being layered into the very top of conventional memory causing mayhem
with the applications. This doesn't occur with the account and scripts
that start up lotus 2.2 though. Oh I also replaced 3.11 menu system
with the 3.0 menu system. Space is precious.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be delighted to try them on a trial
fileserver I'll be working up in a weeks time.

Also, removing the menus altogether, and starting word perfect from the
4 line login script (search drives, wp.....) makes not one shred of difference.
Attaching to the wp directory as supervisor and starting up wp works perfectly.

A very harassed Australian would be pleased to find the answer to this
strange situation.

Regards .............
