[comp.research.japan] On PC-9801 SIM software

kenji@ybbs.c.u-tokyo.ac.jp (Kenji Rikitake) (02/11/91)

I don't know whether this message is suitable for comp.research.japan,
but I've got a several inquiry on SIM software (an IBM-PC BIOS emulator
on NEC PC-9801 computers) from those who are watching this newsgroup
regularly, so I write my survey on the SIM.

Conclusion:

SIM's latest version has been suspended by its original author.
The next release date is not planned yet.

Analysis:

I personally talked to the SIM's author. He has no access to the Internet
(actually very few PC hackers in Japan can get into the Internet) and he's
on Nikkei MIX (a BBS system managed by Nikkei BP Corp., formerly Nikkei-
McGrawhill Corp., a huge publisher of engineering-related magazines) so I
asked him about the next release. He said he had no plan. He was distributing
his software through PC-VAN (an NEC's nation-wide BBS system), but he decided
to quit for some unknown reason (having different opinions with the SIGOP of
PC-VAN? - just a speculation).

Suggestion:

If you really want the next version of SIM, you can write me, and I can forward
him your mail. I personally have few interest on SIM since I think IBM-PC and
PC-9801 have very few in common.
