Student voters yesterday turned down a proposal for a Student Life Centre and a compulsory fee to pay for it. Following are (unofficial) figures on the voting. > Total number of eligible voters was 15,847; 4,409 students voted with 1,498 voting yes and 2,894 voting no; 17 spoiled ballots. > 33.9 per cent of students voting voted yes; 65.6 voted no; 0.3 per cent spoiled their ballots. > Almost the reverse was true for applied health sciences and optometry students: 63.8 per cent voted yes, 36.1 per cent voted no. > Total voter turnout was 27.8 per cent of eligible students. > Turnout in arts, environmental studies, independent studies and the church colleges was 22.1 per cent; in math, 26.7 per cent; in engineering, 44.8 per cent; in applied health sciences and optometry, 36.2 per cent; in science, 27.7 per cent; and for mailed out ballots, 22.7 per cent. > There were 5,165 eligible voters in arts, ES, IS and church colleges; 1,142 students voted with 396 voting yes and 741 voting no; 5 spoiled ballots. > Of 2,176 eligible voters in mathematics, 583 students voted, with 203 voting yes and 377 voting no; 3 spoiled ballots. > 2,135 eligible voters in engineering; 957 students voted with 149 voting yes and 800 voting no; 8 spoiled ballots. > 1,396 eligible voters in AHS and optometry; 506 students voted with 323 voting yes and 183 voting no; no spoiled ballots. > 1,775 eligible voters in science; 492 students voted with 143 voting yes and 349 voting no, no spoiled ballots. > 3,200 students were mailed ballots; 729 voted with 284 voting yes and 444 voting no; 1 spoiled ballot.
