John Vellinga confirmed this morning that he is resigning as president of the Federation of Students, effective December 1. As of this morning the Fed office had not received a formal resignation letter, but he did inform students' council on Sunday, he said. He blamed the resignation on "health and personal reasons" and burnout. Vice-president (university affairs) Kim Speers is expected to take over as president, subject to a formal bylaw change that will be required. She will be, as far as anybody in Information and Public Affairs can tell, the first woman ever to be president of the Federation.
