[uw.campus-news] Income tax advice

gazette@watserv1.waterloo.edu (Chris Redmond) (03/07/91)

With RRSP season over, the conscientious mind turns to
thoughts of income tax returns. We've been asked to remind
campus readers, especially those who gave money this year
to the United Way or the university's own fund-raising campaign
or both, that this is also the season when you see the
benefits of your good deeds: DON'T FORGET to claim a deduction
on your income tax return for your charitable givings.

On the same subject, the following announcement is passed on by
Darren Meister <darren@watnow>:

                           TAX WORKSHOP
                           ============
                      Tuesday March 12, 1991
                              2.30 pm
DC 2577 (Electrical Engineering Seminar Room)
                         sponsored by the
International Graduate Students Committee of the GSA

A representative from Revenue Canada will be on hand from 2.30 to 4.30
to answer your questions about income tax. They are scheduled to first
give a presentation geared towards international students. Therefore, while
anyone is welcome, international students will want to be there at 2.30.

Income tax is due April 30 but you can file for a refund at any time. You
also must file a return to be eligible for tax credits.

For information, contact Darren Meister (darren@watnow) or Arun Achyuthan
(arun@vlsi).
