TRAVEL INFORMATION

Princeton University is located in central New Jersey about 50 miles
southwest of New York City and 45 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
To reach Princeton, we recommend one of the following routes:

BY PLANE:

>From Newark Airport:
The Princeton Airporter limousine has an information counter
at the baggage claim area in each terminal at Newark Airport.
Reservations can be made at the desk when you arrive at the
airport for your trip to Princeton. Reservations must be made in
advance for your return trip to the airport, however. The one-way
cost is approximately $20 per person. The trip takes approximately
1.5 hours. The shuttle service runs fifteen minutes after the hour
every hour from 7:15 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. The telephone number for
Princeton Airporter is (609) 734-9200.

The Salem Limousine runs from the Newark Airport to Palmer
Square at various times during the day. The ticket counter is
located near the United Airlines baggage counter or by courtesy
phone if you do not come into the United Terminal. Passengers are
encouraged to contact Salem directly regarding reservations,
schedules, and pricing. Their phone number is (609) 924-3098.

>From Philadelphia Airport:
Take the SEPTA airport shuttle train to the 30th Street station.
The shuttle stops on the lower level of every terminal and costs
about $5. See attached directions for train travel for further
directions.

NOTE: We do not recommend flying into JFK or LaGuardia airports
in New York. It is expensive and time consuming to travel through
Manhattan to the train or bus station where transportation to
Princeton is available.

BY TRAIN

>From New York, Penn Station, West 33rd Street:
Take any New Jersey Transit or Amtrak train going to Princeton
Junction. (Many Amtraks do not stop at the Junction; please check
schedule carefully or you'll have to get off in Trenton and
backtrack). From the Junction you can ride to Princeton University
(about 3 miles away) on the "Dinky" or PJ&B (Princeton Junction and
Back), a little train that arrives off of Alexander Road.

PLEASE NOTE: The Dinky does not run frequently on weekends,
so check a train schedule to make sure that there is a connection
when you arrive at the Junction, or you'll have to take an expensive
taxi into Princeton. Taxis meet most rush hour trains but cannot
be depended upon to meet off-peak and weekend trains.

>From Philadelphia, 30th Street Station
Take a SEPTA train to Trenton and change to a New Jersey Transit
to Princeton Junction. Don't forget to check to see if the Dinky meets
the New Jersey Transit train. (SEPTA is a Pennsylvania company and
Trenton is its only New Jersey stop). An easier plan would be to
take an Amtrak train from Philadelphia to Princeton Junction. From
the Junction, ride to Princeton University on the Dinky or PJ&B to
campus.

PLEASE NOTE: Not all Amtrak trains stop at the Junction, but most
except the Metroliner stop at Trenton.

>From Trenton:
Change from SEPTA or Amtrak to a New Jersey Transit train to
Princeton Junction, making sure that the NJT train connects with the
Dinky. From the Junction, ride to Princeton University on the Dinky
or PJ&B.

BY CAR

>From the West or Midwest:
In New Jersey, drive east on Interstate 78 until you reach Highway
206. Turn south and follow 206 into Princeton. (It turns into
Bayard Lane.) When you reach the three-way intersection of
Bayard Lane, Nassau Street, and 206 South, turn left onto Nassau
Street and go straight until you reach Palmer Square. Princeton
University is located across the street.

>From the South:
Follow the New Jersey Turnpike north to Exit 8 -Hightstown. Turn
left after exiting the turnpike and follow signs for Highway 571
(Washington Road) which is a right turn off Highway 33 in
downtown Hightstown. Go west on Highway 571 for approximately
12 miles, across US 1 and into Princeton. After crossing US 1, you
will have a beautiful drive into Princeton and over Lake Carnegie.

>From Philadelphia:
   Follow I-95 North to exit 67A - Route 1 North (New York/New
Brunswick). Follow Route 1 North for approximately 15 miles to the
light at Route 571 (Washington Road). Turn left at the light, crossing
Route 1, and follow Washington Road over Lake Carnegie.

>From the North:
The easiest route is by the New Jersey Turnpike going south. Get
off at Exit 9 - New Brunswick. After the toll booth (use a booth on
the far right), turn right onto the ramp to Highway 18 NORTH. Soon
after, turn into the lefthand fork of the road, staying in the right
lane (you'll see a Bennigan's restaurant and car wash just ahead
which will be on your right as you bear left). The road will take
you over US 1 and you will bear right for a hidden exit to US 1
South, Trenton. These three turns occur in rapid succession. Follow
US 1 about 18 miles to the exit at Route 571 (Washington Road),
turn right, and follow Washington road over Lake Carnegie.

University parking:

We are permitted to use LOT 21 located at Faculty and FitzRandolph
Roads. From Washington Road, turn right onto Faculty Road and turn
left into the FitzRandolph parking entrance.

A University shuttle runs every 5 min. from 7:00 am to 10:30 am,
every 15 min. until 4:00 pm, and every 5 min. from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
The shuttle stops at the E-quad opposite the Computer Science Bldg.,
and picks up at the Computer Science. Bldg.

Municipal Parking: Palmer Square Parking Garage, 25 Chambers St.
Hulfish and Witherspoon St. parking (one block over from the Nassau
Inn).
Princeton Public Library lot: Witherspoon and Springs Sts. (Enter via
Spring St.).

On-street Parking: Both metered and unmetered parking are
available near the Computer Science Bldg.(Olden and William Sts.)
and adjacent streets such as Prospect Avenue and Western Way.

Please note that there is ongoing construction in the Engineering
Quadrangle area.
