[comp.lang.clos] CLOS class browser for Sun Lisp 4.0

PD CLOS Class Browser available for Sun Lisp 4.0
------------------------------------------------

The Browser is available for anonymous FTP from:

siam.unibe.ch [130.92.64.10] in ~ftp/Languages/lisp/clos-browser.tar.Z

It's the result of a students' project and was written by Roberto Liviero.
It has no sophisticated/special features, just a basic graphical class browser.
I did not have the time to run a lot of tests or to look at the code, but
the examples I tried worked.
Besides the class browser itself, the goal of the project was to experiment
with the first versions of Sun's GUIDE (graphical user interface development
environment) and LispView (CLOS based windowing on Openwindows).
The experiences with these tools were both good and bad:
positive: straightforward and comfortable definition of a user interface
negative: - buggy GUIDE to Lispview translation
             - missing text window
             - insufficient Lispview documentation
Of course, another drawback is that GUIDE and Lispview are not
machine-independent (run only on Sun's). CLX would have provided more
portability. But there are probably enough Sun's around to justify this
announcement. (maybe Sun's SPE includes such a class browser?)

Instructions:
  - you need Sun Common Lisp 4.0 with CLOS and Lispview loaded to run the
    browser (GUIDE is not needed)
  - ftp,uncompress, untar
  - 'user-docu' describes the use of the browser
  - there is a file 'load-browser.lisp' that loads the various files
  - for efficiency, you probably want to compile the code.
The browser is slow at startup, but it gets better once the first
    display has been built up.

There is no support, warranty, or whatsoever. But if you have improvements,
bug fixes, etc., send them to me and maybe I'll incorporate them and make
a new version available (provided I can find the time for it:-).
