I would like to know if anyone reading this newsgroup can provide
to me the email, fax, or postal address for Dr. Duncan Gillies,
director of the Computer Graphics and Vision Section at Imperial
College, London. SCIENCE magazine ("Simulated Travel in Inner
Spaces," 2 Nov) features an interesting sidebar on Dr. Gillies's
PC-based model of the colon (!) in which students can explore a
diseased organ with a virtual endoscope. They get points for
"the number of polyps detected and the precision of steering,
complete with bells and whistles to announce mistakes. Head into
the colon wall, for example, and the image turns red....If a
young endoscopist bursts through the gut wall, a mess erupts on
the screen followed by a brief message: 'You better call your
lawyer.'"
Get your quarters ready, folks. This one's gonna be BIG.
