I am interested in developing an object-oriented class hierarchy of
useful "idioms" in scientific visualization, such as maps, spatial
fields, etc. (More precisely this would be a multiple-inheritance
heterarchy.) This would be the basis of an Lisp or Smalltalk-based
scientific visualization environment. I am particularly interested
in what the higher-level abstract classes or "mixins" should look
like.
I already know of the following related efforts:
Lisp-Stat
S-Plus now has some object-oriented features
CSIRO in Australia has done some classification
Wehrend (Univ. Colorado) has also
Does anyone know of any other research in this field that they could
supply me with pointers to? Also, if anyone has any ideas on this
subject they would like to share, I would greatly appreciate it.
