[comp.graphics.visualization] Khoros VMS DECWindows

gloger@dbulm1.uucp (Jochen Gloger) (03/13/91)

In the comp.graphics newsgroup I found as a part of the 'Frequently
asked questions - READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST' article the following lines:

> Khoros, a huge (~100 meg) graphical development environment based on
> X11R4. Khoros components include a visual programming language, code
> generators for extending the visual language and adding new application
> packages to the system, an interactive user interface editor, an
> interactive image display package, an extensive library of image and
> signal processing routines, and 2D/3D plotting packages. Available via
> FTP as pprg.unm.edu:pub/khoros/*.

I would like to get answered the following questions:

First some informations about our working environment:

                     VAX 8550 VMS 5.4 (server)

Several types of VAXStations in a cluster (client)

                     DECWindows

1) Is it possible to run Khoros with DECWindows? (As far as I know
DECWindows is currently based on X11R3 and Khoros needs X11R4.) Is
a VMS (or X11R3) version of Khoros available?

2) I am mainly looking for a graphical library with a procedural
interface (not only a stand alone package with an interpreter shell). Is
Khoros that I am looking for? If not, are there any suggestions for
other modern graphical libraries available for DECWindows (please
do not recommend GKS). I imagine a kind of graphical output as it is
   done by Mathematica.

3) Next problem:
   IF ( 1)=yes OR 2)=yes ) THEN
I can't FTP. Where can I get Khoros via email?
Where can I get manuals or some more detailed descriptions about
      the features of Khoros.
   ENDIF
