I am looking for programs which will display the output of various molecular dynamics codes that are in use here at the lab. The input format can be just about anything as long as it is documented (we can either change the output of our md codes, or write a filter). We currently use MacAtoms on the Macintosh (it is to slow for displaying time seqences of hundreds or thousands of atoms). I am working on a program for the Silicon Graphics IRIS, but I would gladly throw it all away for something better. Conversations with various scientists here indicate that the following features are of interest: being able to track one or more atoms through the time sequence show the history of the track (or history/future in subsequent renderings of the animation as an option) look at a slice within the data set (front & back clipping at a minimum) alter the size of the atoms (to obscure or to not obscure background atoms) display atoms with different renderings (solid, transparent, with or without light source shading, etc.) support playback for single frame video recording support molecular bond lines if available I am sure there are other things, but can't think of them right now.
