[comp.benchmarks] Full system or not

We are currently running bench marks on a number of different
UNIX boxes.

In my opinion the most reliable way to do this is with the
system be running all the system software it will eventually
support.

For example it will be running NFS and TCP/IP.

Now, none of this system software is included in the benchmark
suite and so is idle, but it would be loaded (although probably
swapped out).

Now I am told by others that there is no need to do this, that
using a base system is just as accurate, that having the extra
system software loaded makes absolutely no difference.

Opinions ...
