[comp.benchmarks] Cheating on LINPACK

borasky@ogicse.cse.ogi.edu (M. Edward Borasky) (01/04/91)

From the mail I've been getting, I realize that there is something I
neglected to say in my previous postings about cheating on the LINPACK
benchmark -- so here it is:

ALL COMPUTER VENDORS HAVE CORPORATE POLICY WHICH STRICTLY FORBIDS THIS
TYPE OF ACTIVITY. EMPLOYEES CAUGHT DOING IT ARE SUBJECT TO SUMMARY
DISMISSAL (THEY'RE FIRED ON THE SPOT).

Please don't send me or anyone else E-mail asking who the vendor was.
Yes, it happened -- the guilty were punished, but it was acts of
INDIVIDUALS, not COMPANIES.
