From the mail I've been getting, I realize that there is something I neglected to say in my previous postings about cheating on the LINPACK benchmark -- so here it is: ALL COMPUTER VENDORS HAVE CORPORATE POLICY WHICH STRICTLY FORBIDS THIS TYPE OF ACTIVITY. EMPLOYEES CAUGHT DOING IT ARE SUBJECT TO SUMMARY DISMISSAL (THEY'RE FIRED ON THE SPOT). Please don't send me or anyone else E-mail asking who the vendor was. Yes, it happened -- the guilty were punished, but it was acts of INDIVIDUALS, not COMPANIES.
